Catherine De Geynst

de-geynst-catherine-psychologue-clinicienne-psychotherapeute-systemique-psychotraumatologue-uccleAfter obtaining my master’s degree in clinical psychology at ULB (2011), I began working as a psychologist in psychiatric institutions (psychiatric hospitals for adults, community centers, etc.) while following continuing education and postgraduate in systemic psychotherapy at Forestière asbl (2018).Psychologist clinician Uccle

Considering the difficulties and resources of people as emanating from their various systems of belonging (family, institutions, groups), the interactions and dynamics which take place there and their history (beliefs, values, transgenerational transmission, legacies), the systemic orientation gives me a holistic approach to human beings. It also allows me to receive, in consultation, couples, families or individuals, wishing to ease their suffering and better cope with who they are.Psychologist clinician Uccle

Also trained in psycho-traumatology at the Belgian Institute of Victimology (2012) and the University of Jerusalem (2019), I worked for several years abroad as a psychologist in humanitarian field and NGO with war refugees. I continued working with psycho-trauma upon my return to Belgium with exiled people and anyone who has experienced such events.Psychologist clinician Uccle

This specialization allows me to better apprehend other situations encountered as well, such as burnout, exhaustion, stress and its effects in general, somatic symptoms and chronic pain, hypersensitivity, attention and concentration issues, experiences of controlling relationships or other relational problems directly or indirectly linked to a form of physical or psychological violence.

I also provide training to multidisciplinary front-line professionals on the relational and systemic aspects of post-traumatic stress syndrome. I sometimes carry out legal expertise for cases involving people who have been victims of trauma and I consult for the Superior Council of Health in the matter.

Self-employed psychologist in different medical practices for several years, I now receive, in my own private practice in Uccle, families (children and parents together), adolescents, adults, couples and group therapy.
My approach is humanistic, centered on the person (their way of relating to others, to the world, to themselves), the speech and the construction of a therapeutic alliance, based on a humble, caring, authentic and committed professional posture, aiming to bring to the person, recognition, consideration, meaning and resumption of a sense of agency.

Passionate about my job, I like to pass it on through trainings and university teaching. I also collaborate on research about psychological and systemic aspects linked to extremism and radicalization.
